Temporary Closure of Dalebrook Subway for Safety Reasons

Please be advised that Dalebrook Subway will be closed temporarily for safety reasons while contractors complete the installation of a water pipe.

The closure is necessary as the only access to and from the subway has been across existing construction works which run close to machinery. This is not in line with the health and safety requirements. Pedestrians insisting on crossing through the construction works, do so at their own risk. The contractor will not accept any responsibility for any injury caused on site. Signs have been posted to advise pedestrians of the subway closure.

During the temporary closure of the subway, pedestrians can gain access to the beach from “Danger Beach” or at the “Brass Bell” subways. People crossing the railway line do so at their own risk.

Once the pipe has been installed, a demarcated pathway to the subway will be created across the construction works and the subway will be re-opened to the public.

The traffic light at the pedestrian crossing is currently out of order as a cable has been damaged. This cable is exposed and the City of Cape Town’s electrical department has been notified to repair this cable. A flagman will be stationed at the crossing to assist pedestrians until the traffic light has been repaired. Once the traffic light is in working order it will be much safer to cross at this pedestrian crossing.

We apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused.
