Planned repair works on Boyes Drive

October 24, 2011

Please be aware that the Contractor will undertake repair work on Boyes Drive, on Tuesday 25thand Wednesday 26thOctober 2011. As such a temporary one-way system for northbound traffic will be instituted between the hours of 09h00 to 16h00 (for the section of road from Clairvaux Road to Old Boyes Drive) and southbound traffic will thus be directed to use Main Road during this time on both Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th October 2011.

Please note that there is currently insufficient bitumen to undertake work further than Wednesday, 26 October 2011. It is anticipated that bitumen will only be available in mid-November 2011. Once the bitumen supplies have been restored in mid-November 2011, work on Boyes Drive will resume. Contractor will then require 7 working days (excluding Fridays and Saturdays) to complete the repairs.

DELAYS ON MAIN ROAD WHILST WORK ON BOYES DRIVE IS BEING UNDERTAKEN:

No delays were experienced on Main Road today as the construction staff were prohibited from moving machines in a northerly direction. However, this is not sustainable as it will affect progress of works on the Main Road.

As such, for the remaining two days, machine movements, which affect traffic, will occur only once per hour and the affect closely monitored. A traffic control person with two way communication, will be stationed at Leighton Road to monitor traffic build up and provide an early warning, and an additional person will be stationed further north, at Atlantic Road.

It has been agreed that no work would occur on Boyes Drive on Fridays, the traffic flow on Fridays appears to be significantly higher than any other day of the week.

NIGHT WORK ON BOYES DRIVE AS AN OPTION:

The project team considered undertaking night work on Boyes Drive but have ruled out this option in the short term for the following reasons:

· There is only three days’ worth of bitumen available, including today, and the team would waste a day with the shift changeover.

· The street lighting on Boyes is not adequate and additional lighting would be necessary.

· Public engagement with Boyes Drive residents would need to take place first before any night work can be undertaken.

Notice regarding future works on Boyes Drive and congestion on Main Road

October 21, 2011

Civils2000 apologises for the congestion experienced on Main Road recently.

The following action will be taken by Civils2000:

· Civils2000 will ensure that no traffic stoppages occur on Main Road as a result of construction work from today, until Monday night (24 October 2011).

· A high level meeting is being held on site at 11am on Monday to formulate a plan for future traffic control during the Boyes Drive and Main Road simultaneous work, including the option of working on Boyes Drive at night.

Please note that the repair works on Boyes Drive will continue on Monday, 24 October 2011 (for fear of future unavailability of bitumen) and the one-way northbound traffic system will be put in place between 09h00 and 16h00 during this time.

Planned water shutdown on Tuesday, 25 October

October 20, 2011

Please see attached City of Cape Town notification with respect to the planned water shutdown scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 25 October 2011.

Please note that there will be a disruption to the water supply in the area from St James (from Sandhurst Road) through to Clovelly (between Main Road and Boyes Drive) on Tuesday, 25 October 2011, from 08h30 until 17h00.

The areas that will be affected by this shutdown are: St James, Kalk Bay and Clovelly. The effect of this shutdown will be similar to the shutdown which occurred earlier this year in June. It is possible that residents may either be without water during this time or experience a low pressure supply.

To minimise the inconvenience:

· Residents should store sufficient water in clean, sealed containers for domestic consumption.

· Should residents require any water for domestic consumption, a water tanker will be placed on standby near the intersection of Clairvaux Road (Boyes Drive) and the Main Road.

· Residents must also ensure that their taps are closed whilst the work is in progress to eliminate the possibility of water loss or damage being incurred when the water supply and pressure is restored and nobody is at home.

Should you have any queries in this regard, kindly contact Farouk Robertson at the City of Cape Town on 021 487 2318 or 084 307 2001.

Kindly disseminate this information to other affected parties.

Temporary closure of Leighton Rd on 26 October

October 19, 2011

Please be advised that Leighton Road will be closed to all vehicular traffic between 08:00 and 17:00 on Wednesday 26 October 2011. This is necessary so that we can install underground water and storm water services at the intersection with Main Road.

We will arrange that the parking area opposite St James Terrace is cleared and available for parking that day. Vehicles may also be parked in Main Road. A guard will be on duty to ensure the safety of parked vehicles.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of this temporary closure.

Boyes Drive repair work on hold till further notice

October 11, 2011

Please be advised that the Boyes Drive repair work is on hold until further notice as a result of the country wide bitumen shortage.

The project team is unable to confirm when works will resume as this is solely dependent on the supply of Bitumen. As such, the southbound lane on Boyes Drive is open.

Please note that once works on Boyes Drive resume, a temporary one-way system for northbound traffic between the hours of 09h00 to 16h00 (for the section from Clairvaux Road to Old Boyes Drive) will be reintroduced for the duration of the works.
